Just attended a 2 day virtual conference for Black Women Wellness. My company is one of the sponsors in effort of upholding DEI initiatives and women’s wellness; my company helps support this non-profits efforts. The theme for this year’s event was as follows: “Building a future we deserve.”
From young to old all of the speakers were inspiring and motivational. Last year I was inspired to delve more into the theme that Self-care is not Selfish. This year I am more impressed upon this concept in order to build a future and leave a legacy for my heirs this is a must. The themes that build upon Self-care is not selfish but definitely, in order to build a better future, it is mandatory. I find that as I reflect on my past year; I have learned much about myself. I have revamped some things and pursued a healthier life so that I can have a better future. I have a long way to go in making alterations; but I am doing it one step at a time. If anything; I am embracing more that self-care means making sure that myself is cared about and the only one that can do that the best is me.
One session and speaker who stood out to me was talking about how to launch your wealth and entrepreneurial business. I enjoyed the session from Beatrice Dixon. Dixon launched The Honey Pot to find out more about her company please visit the link at https://thehoneypot.co/.
Some of the keys I obtained from this powerful, in-your-face, transparent speaker is to go after what you want because nobody will just hand you anything. I also felt her passion as she shared how she took the opportunities presented to her even if she had no clue on what she was doing. She just did what she could and continued to grind on her passion, purpose, and plan.
Furthermore, I obtained some powerful motivational nuggets that I sum up in the following manner:
When you are on the path to greatness; you must be in a certain place for yourself. You must be honest and transparent about what posture you are at in order to move forward to progress. Be responsible for you! Be in a good place. You are not concerned about no one else about you. Selfcare is not selfish. Then get serious and tedious about what you want. Dream with the end in mind. Write down the vision. I.E., write out your end goal that you desire when you are at point A of the process. One of the books this speaker mentioned is “The Mastery of Love” by Don Miguel Rui. I have not read this book, so I am not recommending it in one way or another.
I also think it’s important to stay diligent at all cost regardless of the naysayers and the roadblocks. Keep looking at the goal. Keep intentionality and purposefulness in all of your actions. Put notes around your house up in visible places so you can view your vision at all times. Acquire knowledge. Read books. Remain educated on the field of interest you are passionate about. Make sure you are ready when the opportunity is presented with your plans written out, data to support the vision, and legwork done so that whoever gives you an audience to pitch your business, ideas, and dreams you do not stumble but have the expertise and back-up information to get a green light.
One of the last way to sum up my thoughts, is to know that we are all in this life’s journey together. Everyone is desiring to get from point A to point Z. With that said, part of the initiative of The Thankful Revolution is to encourage, edify, educate, and elevate all who visit. I desire that is you have a dream to not be discouraged and give up. On the contrary, dig in harder even if it is a new idea or venture you don’t have a clue about how to maneuver. Just write out your plans or what you are thinking you want to achieve.
I like to leave this truth that God shares in Habakkuk Chapter 2:2-3 The Message Version:
And then God answered: “Write this.
Write what you see.
Write it out in big block letters
so that it can be read on the run.
This vision-message is a witness
pointing to what’s coming.
It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait!
And it doesn’t lie.
If it seems slow in coming, wait.
It’s on its way. It will come right on time.
Even the Lord told us to write out the plans, dreams, hopes, and visions so it is clear what you see and want to see moving forward. Although it may be a task to get to the end goal that is full of bumps and sometimes bruises; if you continue to keep the vision before you and just concentrate on that written declaration you set forth in the beginning; you will get to where you desire.
Yes, you may feel that you are on your journey by yourself, but remember we are all in this life’s journey together. The pandemic proved that there is a social responsibility we all have one to another. The decisions we make will and does impact our life and the lives of others around us. So, keep focused that your desires have not been on deaf ears. Your purpose is vital for the well-being of first and foremost yourself and then secondly everyone in the community of influence that you impact.
Women of color; have had struggles unique to them. This is not to say other persons whether of color or not have not also experienced mountains placed in front of them. I will continue to trumpet the cause that all mankind should be treated with equity, ,decency, and respect. I will continue to shine lights when there may be disparity apparent where some are marginalized. This type of direct disparity could be against a person of color, a woman, a disabled individual, and/or just basically anyone that is not reflected by the person in your mirror. So, let us all take a moment to pause and think about do I pursue activities, conversations, and endeavors that will build a better future for myself and family; but more importantly I will ask what will my (your) legacy be?
Since God is not a respecter of persons; I will say we all deserve better. So, let us all make an intentional choice to be better, do better, and live better. That is what I believe will create a future that is better.
