🌟 Finding Your Identity and Purpose After Trauma 🌟

Hey, it’s Miriam Smith Stevens. I want to share something deeply personal with you. After my traumatic life event in October 2008, I found myself grappling with a sense of purpose, peace, and passion. It was a challenging time, and regaining my footing felt like an uphill battle.

Through sheer determination and a deep reliance on God and His Word, I began to pull myself out of the dark patches I had experienced. It wasn’t easy, but I learned that healing is a journey and it’s okay to move at your own pace. The Lord’s grace has been my guide, helping me navigate through the toughest times. 🙏💫

I want to remind you that it’s absolutely okay to heal at your own pace. God’s grace is there to support you every step of the way. Psalm 34:18 reassures us: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” 💖

You don’t need to be ashamed of where you are or where you’ve come from. Your experiences, even the painful ones, help build your character and make you who you are. No one can squash your voice or tell your story but you. Isaiah 43:1 says, “But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’” 🕊️

Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14 tells us, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” You are unique and a masterpiece in your own right. 💫

You are precious and valuable, regardless of your past experiences or life events. 1 Peter 2:9 affirms, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Your light shines bright and should never be dimmed by anyone, including yourself. 🌟

By embracing your identity in Christ, you find the strength to continue moving forward, no matter the challenges you face. The journey to healing and self-acceptance is deeply personal, but you are never alone. God’s grace is with you, and your story matters. 🌈

1. Crisis
I faced a major crisis with my self-esteem. It was a tough period where I felt disconnected from my own sense of value. But in the midst of this struggle, I found solace in Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This verse reminded me that my worth isn’t defined by my struggles but by how wonderfully God created me. 🌟

2. Pivot
I decided to make a change. I started focusing on my identity in Christ rather than my insecurities. By embracing what Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future,” I began to see my life through a new lens of hope and purpose. 🌈

3. Rebirth
This shift led to a powerful rebirth in my confidence and self-worth. I realized that my true identity is in Christ, and that transformed how I see myself. I found strength in Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” This new perspective gave me the courage to embrace who I truly am. 🦅

4. Nourish
To keep this newfound confidence, I focused on nourishing my soul with daily prayer and scripture. Philippians 4:8 became a guiding principle: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” This practice helped me maintain a positive outlook. 📖

5. Observe
I started observing how positive influences and community engagement enriched my life. Connecting with uplifting people and joining supportive communities made a huge difference. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… encouraging one another.” 🤗

6. Wonder
I allowed myself to wonder at the beauty of my journey and God’s work in my life. Reflecting on Matthew 22:39, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” I learned the importance of self-love and compassion. 🌸

7. Reclaim
Finally, I reclaimed my voice and purpose, realizing that I am needed and valuable. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed.” Seeking guidance and being open to support helped me reclaim my place in the world. 💬

8. Witness
Now, I share my story to encourage others. Your journey can inspire and uplift those around you. 2 Corinthians 1:4 reminds us, “He comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble, with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 🌟

Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Psalm 91: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.”

Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Romans 8:28: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”

Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Nehemiah 8:10: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Philippians 3:13-14: “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Lord, I surrender my worries, fears, and uncertainties to You. You are my way-maker, and I trust that You will create a way where there seems to be no way. Help me to lean on Your promises, to walk in faith, and to experience Your provision in every area of my life.
